Ralf Rangnick set to battle for Liverpool target and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Manchester United are set to complete with Liverpool for Porto winger Luis Diaz - according to reports.

Having finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League last season, key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom issued a triple statement of intent; signing Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and returning five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester Evening News understands that holding midfield area remains a priority for next summer, while West Ham star Declan Rice continues to be seen as their number one target - despite concerns that the Hammers might dig their heels in over a valuation for the sought-after England international.

However, according to Spanish publication Fichajes, interim manager Ralf Rangnick and United are monitoring other positions; with Liverpool target Diaz thought to be on their radar.

Aside from Sancho and Ronaldo, the Old Trafford giants are well-stocked in attacking quarters - but left-sided Diaz has impressed during his time with the Portuguese side.

Having signed for Porto from Junior FC in 2019, the Colombian has scored 38 goals and provided 16 assists.

Diaz's return has been totted-up from 119 appearances, while the 31-cap international has been particularly prolific this campaign with 16 direct goal involvements from 22 games in all competitions.

Fichajes credit United and Manchester City with an interest as Liverpool continue to lead the charge for a forward whose asking price stood at €80million this summer.

Elsewhere, cash-strapped Spanish giants Barcelona are 'not sure' about signing Anthony Martial from United.

Speculation over the France striker continues to mount amid suggestions he is ready to depart Old Trafford - with minutes proving few and far between since Ronaldo completed a sensation return move from Juventus.

Martial is reported to have several clubs in the market for his services.

However, while Barcelona are seemingly out to replace Sergio Aguero amid retirement talk, Spanish publication El Nacional report that newly-appointed manager Xavi is not entirely convinced by the wantaway frontman.
