Ralf Rangnick's foundation deletes Instagram post confirming his "dream" Man Utd move

While Ralf Rangnick 's move to Manchester United looks like a case of when rather than if, it appears the manager's foundation has jumped the gun.

The former RB Leipzig manager is expected to leave his current sport and development role with Lokomotiv Moscow to take over at Old Trafford, initially on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

United have acted quickly to find a successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who left the club after nearly three years in charge.

Rangnick fought off competition from a number of experienced managers to emerge as United's top candidate to take over from Solskjaer, and reports suggest he will remain at United on a consultancy role for a further two years to help the club transition into their next phase under a new permanent boss.

As United fans await an official announcement from the club about the new incumbent, it appears Rangnick's own foundation jumped the gun before realising their mistake.

'Ralf Rangnick Stiftung', a children's foundation based in Leipzig, posted on Instagram announcing the appointment and shared their congratulations on an Instagram story.

Both posts were removed within an hour once the mistake was identified.

As translated by The Sun, the post read: 'Dear friends, promoters and fans of the Ralf Rangnick Foundation, today we have something of our own to announce:

'We congratulate and are very hapy for our founder Ralf Rangnick, who signed a contract until the end of the season in summer 2022 as 'Interimstrainer' [interim] with the English club,

'And thus has gotten himself a long awaited dream come true.'

'He will act as an advisor of the prestigious club for two years. Ralf continues to be the most important ambassador of his foundation,' the now-deleted statement continued.

'Which will now hopefully become even more popular in England as well and can do a lot of good for as many children as possible.

'At this point, a heartfelt thank you for your countless congratulations to Ralf, which have reached us through all possible channels and which we collectively convey to him.'

Rangnick was one of a number of contenders for the interim role, along with the likes of Rudi Garcia, Ernesto Valverde and Lucien Favre.

Reports claim the 63-year-old rejected one offer from United before eventually being convinced to take over, with an official announcement thought to be imminent.

A number of members of Solskjaer's coaching staff are expected to remain at the club - including Michael Carrick, who is due to remain in caretaker charge for United's Premier League trip to league leaders Chelsea this weekend.
