Ralf Rangnick's £33m transfer deal 'all but agreed' as Manchester United 'interested' in Frenkie de Jong

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we look at some of the best Manchester United stories you might have missed.

It's been a whirlwind few days for United supporters as fans are bouncing after Sunday's 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Amadou Haidara is the name that keeps on cropping up, with one outlet now reporting a deal is all but agreed with the midfielder.

United's search for a holding midfielder seems to be continuing, and the latest name to be linked is Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. The club's hierarchy are said to be 'keeping tabs' on the Dutch international.

Ralf Rangnick is reportedly looking to make more changes to the United squad, and there is a new name being linked. This time, it's a player from Aston Villa.

Haidara deal 'all but agreed'

Since Ralf Rangnick's arrival at Old Trafford, the one name that continues to be linked to the club is RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara.

The 23-year-old has a brilliant reputation across Europe and has worked with Rangnick in the past, so it's no surprise to see United reportedly interested in buying out his £33m release clause.

The Sun reports that Haidara will become Rangnick's first signing if United pays now.

Sources in Germany claim Rangnick has already spoken to Haidara's agent Volker Struth, and a deal is all but agreed.

The only sticking point is that he is off to the African Cup of Nations with Mali, although it is not a significant hurdle.

My opinion : Although The Sun is jumping on this earlier than many other outlets, supporters should be keeping tabs on this as his name keeps on coming up in the media. I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually joined United. It's a move I'm here for.

United' keeping tabs' on Frenkie de Jong

I think many United supporters would be delighted if Frenkie de Jong joined the club, and a report from Spain has indicated the club is interested in signing the 24-year-old.

El Nacional report that Ralf Rangnick's desire to control transfers could see United target younger players, and De Jong fits into that category.

However, United are reportedly only willing to pay £47million; a figure deemed too low by those in Barcelona. They'll have to increase their offer if they want to prise him away from the Catalan club.

My opinion: There haven't been any credible links in the English media with a move for De Jong to Old Trafford, but it's a transfer that fans will welcome. I also think there's an opportunity to capitalise on Barcelona's financial struggles, so I'd see if this one develops any legs.

Aston Villa midfielder 'wanted' at United

This report is again coming from British outlet, The Sun, who claim that Manchester United wants to sign Aston Villa and Scotland midfielder John McGinn.

McGinn has caught the eye with his influential performances for club and country, and United were reportedly interested in his services back in the summer of 2019.

However, the report adds that Villa wouldn't consider an offer of less than £50million, and any move is trickier because he has three years left on his current deal.

My opinion: I think that McGinn is a Ralf Rangnick-type midfielder because he works incredibly hard off-the-ball and would slot right into the heart of the current midfield. However, if Villa are putting up a minimum price tag of £50million, United should be looking elsewhere - there'll be better options at a lower price!
