Ralf Rangnick reveals which Manchester United player he previously tried to sign

Ralf Rangnick has revealed that he previously attempted to sign Jadon Sancho while at RB Leipzig and now can't wait to finally work with him as well as the rest of Manchester United's attacking talent.

With work permit issues finally resolved, Rangnick was officially presented as United's new interim manager until the end of the season on Friday morning and he is excited with the quality he now has at his disposal.

Rangnick is renowned for his emphasis on quick, attacking football, as well as intense pressing, and the forwards at United couldn't be better suited to his style.

The German has revealed he is looking forward to working with them and especially Sancho, who he attempted to sign from Manchester City as a teenager before he instead opted to join Borussia Dortmund.

“I am very excited,” he told United's in-house media. “I mean, they have so many top, talented young players – Jadon Sancho I know from the German Bundesliga.

“As a matter of fact, I met him when he was 17, in London. At the time, we were trying to convince him to come to Leipzig and he decided a couple of months later to come to [Borussia] Dortmund, which was not a wrong step from his perspective.

“Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, there are so many top, talented young players in the squad and, on top of that, the experienced top players.

"To work with those kind of players and to help them to get better, yeah, I’m very much looking forward to that.”

Rangnick's first game in charge will come on Sunday when Crystal Palace make the trip to Old Trafford.
