Ralf Rangnick ready to put foot down in fear of Man Utd January transfer exodus

Jesse Lingard will remain a Manchester United player until the end of the season as Ralf Rangnick puts his foot down to prevent an Old Trafford exodus.

The midfielder is set to leave as a free agent in the summer with his current contract expiring.

Lingard was one of the fringe players frozen out by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before his sacking and is still on the periphery since Ralf Rangnick took over.

It's been claimed United will look to trim their bloated squad as the interim boss begins his rebuild in January.

But Lingard is unlikely to go anywhere in the upcoming window with United prepared to let his contract wind down.

It's claimed West Ham would be keen on pursuing another loan move for the England international after he impressed for the Hammers almost 12 months ago.

The Telegraph believes that Old Trafford chiefs wouldn't sanction a deal of this nature given their proximity to David Moyes' men in the Premier League table.

United would be willing to entertain a permanent transfer, however, so that would get something in return for Lingard.

Other players who have been linked with an exit in January are Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba.

United are not expecting Cavani, who has been targeted by Barcelona, or Pogba, who is also a free agent in the summer, to push through a move.

Van de Beek will also likely stay put as Rangnick views the Dutchman as an integral part of his plans for the remainder of the season.

Martial has made it clear he wants to depart Manchester, however, as his agent went public with his wish.

Rangnick insists he has not heard anything from the Frenchman, but has warned that he should tell him directly if he's unhappy, instead of communicating through his agent.

He said: "I don’t communicate with agents via the media or the press. The player hasn’t spoken with me or with us about it... To be honest, what his agent has said in the media is not that much of interest."

Asked whether he would speak to the forward about his agent's admission, Rangnick added: "No, because then I’d react to what the agent has said.

"It should be the player. If a player wishes to go to another club, it should be the player who informs either the board or myself, whoever.

"I have never spoken to a player via media or agents."
