Ralf Rangnick has become the first Manchester United manager to secure two clean sheets from his two league games since Ernest Mangnall in 1903.
The experienced German coach, who was installed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor on a temporary basis until the end of the season almost a fortnight ago, watched his side register a second straight Premier League victory under his stewardship with a 1-0 triumph at Norwich on Saturday evening.
A second half penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to seal all three points for United and move them to within touching distance of fourth-placed West Ham.
Although United were far from their best, with Norwich making life difficult for them and threatening to earn a share of the spoils, Rangnick appears to have stopped the rot, as far their defensive troubles are concerned.
Prior to his arrival, United had conceded 21 times in 10 Premier League games and were in desperate need of becoming more solid and assured at the back.
Although it is very early days and United have faced Crystal Palace and Norwich — two sides in the lower reaches of the table — it has ensured that they are heading in the right direction.
Back-to-back clean sheets in his first two Premier League games at the helm has seen Rangnick become only the second manager in the club's rich and colourful history to have secured two shut-outs in his first two league games in charge.
At his maiden press conference Rangnick spoke about the importance of United regaining both 'control and balance', something they have certainly shown so far.
However, the German, despite his encouraging start to life in the job, was dissatisfied with the aggression and body language shown by his attacking players at Carrow Road.
"It was a completely different game compared to last Sunday," Rangnick said.
"This also had to do with the performance of our opponent. Norwich did extremely well; very courageous, very proactive very, aggressive and in parts of the game we had problems with this kind of football."
