Ralf Rangnick makes first Man Utd transfer decision as Chelsea star targeted

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has already set his sights on a potential new addition to the club after he takes over in a consultancy role after the end of the season.

Rangnick, 63, is held previous roles at RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, respectively, having helped identify a vast number of talented footballers who have gone on to become world class players.

The German is currently still awaiting a Governing Body Endorsement to officially start work at United, with Michael Carrick continuing to manage the team until Rangnick receives a GBE.

In his time as director of football for the aforementioned sides, Rangnick brought in a number of relatively unknown players who have gone on to become some of the best players in the game.

Those names include Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Joshua Kimmich, Naby Keita, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konate.

The German also identified the likes of Manuel Neuer, David Alaba and Roberto Firmino at young ages - bringing them in whilst he was manager.

And according to reports, he's already looking to reunite with one of his former signings at Manchester United.

Bild reporter Christian Falk has claimed that Rangnick is keen on bringing Timo Werner to Old Trafford.

The out-of-sorts Chelsea striker has struggled to adapt in the Premier League, and will likely be a back-up option for the Blues when Romelu Lukaku returns to full fitness.

Werner has only managed seven goals in 43 league appearances, and has been linked with moves back to Germany - with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig reportedly interested.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in 2020 for £47.5 million.
