Ralf Rangnick has told Man Utd what he expects from role so club get 'full potential'

Ralf Rangnick has already made it clear that he wants to be an "influence across the whole club" ahead of his reported role at Manchester United.

The German has long been hailed for his influence at a variety of clubs and is credited with influencing several modern day coaches.

Rangnick has held roles at major teams since the 1980s but his stock remains sky high and he is poised to take over at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

United's top brass were seeking a successor for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and have turned to the former RB Leipzig boss, provided his current employers, Spartak Moscow, green light his exit.

Rangnick has been in charge at several clubs, but also taken on sporting director jobs, which allow him to have a greater influence.

United have several men in place at Old Trafford that oversee various areas of their footballing model.

But if the German's past comments are anything to go by he is likely to want a greater say over matters beyond those on the pitch.

Back in 2019 he responded to reports linking him with a move to United and told The Guardian : "I am happy where I am but if any club wanted to speak to me, the question would have to be: ‘Can I be somebody who can influence areas of development across the whole club?’

"Otherwise you are only getting half of what I am capable of

"If, after that, you can work together in a trustworthy and respectful way, then you are more likely to be successful."

Rangnick will not be in charge for this weekend's clash at Chelsea, meaning Michael Carrick will continue to hold the reins.

The interim boss won his first game at Villarreal earlier this week.

United weighed up several candidates until the end of the season before settling on Rangnick. Ernesto Valverde and Luciren Favre were among those in contention.

Beyond this season Mauricio Pochettino is seen as the man most likely to be pursued.

He was on United's radar back in 2018 when they sacked Jose Mourinho but remain in his role at Tottenham. Now he is in charge at PSG, but continues to be linked with a return to England.

The French side will demand a compensation package if the Red Devils do come knocking in the summer.

Pochettino was quizzed on the Manchester vacancy earlier this week and said: "I said to you all, my contract is until 2023. It's for one season more. I don't say anything different. I am very happy at Paris Saint-Germain. It's a fact. I am happy in Paris"
