Ralf Rangnick has suggested Manchester United should change Luke Shaw role

Ralf Rangnick suggested that Luke Shaw isn't the 'level' of player that is required at Manchester United last year.

Shaw's career at Old Trafford since his £30m transfer from Southampton in 2014 hasn't been straightforward, but the 26-year-old has now made over 200 Premier League appearances for United and he's developed into a key player at the club in recent years.

The left-back enjoyed the best season of his career last term and he was outstanding for England at the European Championship.

But Shaw has failed to continue in that rich vein of form in the new campaign and he's underperforming for his high standards.

The MEN revealed on Thursday afternoon that Rangnick is set to become interim manager of United after a breakthrough in talks, but the German might have to clear the air with Shaw if the England international reads Rangnick's previous comments on himself.

That's because Rangnick, speaking last year, actually claimed that United should sign a new left-back to replace Shaw.

"I think that they could do with a left-back," Rangnick said.

"I know they have Luke Shaw but I'm not so sure if he's still on the same kind of level you need for a club like Manchester United."

Shaw was a certain starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when available and that could potentially change after Rangnick's arrival.
