Ralf Rangnick gets huge Man Utd fitness boost ahead of trip to Norwich City

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will return to full training on Friday, according to reports.

The France international has been out of action since the team's 2-2 Champions League draw against Villarreal last month.

Varane has played just twice in all competitions since the beginning of October due to back-to-back groin and hamstring injuries.

He could be available for United's Premier League fixture against Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday.

But it's believed he will be on the bench for that game before making his return at Brentford on Tuesday.

How important is Raphael Varane to Manchester United's hopes this season? Let us know in the comments below!

The news is a huge boost for interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who is yet to have Varane available.

The defender is a proven winner, lifting four Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, the World Cup and plenty of other trophies during his illustrious career.

He's also vastly experienced, making more than 450 professional appearances for club and country to date.

According to The Sun, Varane has been given the all-clear to return to first-team training after returning to the pitch within the last ten days.

Speaking ahead of the 1-1 draw against Young Boys at Old Trafford on Wednesday, Rangnick provided an update on Varane's and Edinson Cavani's fitness.

The Uruguayan hasn't featured since the 3-0 Premier League victory at Tottenham due to a tendon complaint.

"Edi did [train] yesterday but it was the first time Raphael was on the pitch together with the team," said Rangnick on Tuesday.

"If everything goes well, I expect both of them back in full training next week, hopefully Monday next week, they will be participating in all training sessions.

"Obviously, they’re both top players, we would be happy to have them on board as soon as possible, but, especially with Rapha and his injury record in the past, we need to make sure that we will have him at the end of the season.

"So it’s also about sustainability and not only getting him fit as soon as possible. It would be great to have both players available as soon as possible but, as I said, if possible, for the rest of the season."

Varane joined United from Real Madrid in August and revealed his ambitions for his new club to The Telegraph last week.

"It's important for this club to be at the top and I'm sure fans will always remember which team comes back to the top," he said.

"That's a great challenge. That’s a challenge that motivates me. I won everything [at Madrid], so maybe I was looking for a different feeling. To defend history.

"You have to fight for something bigger than you. You have to fight for the club and the fans and this history. That's very important.

"From the outside, you can see how the club respects legends, respects history. Now I can feel it on the inside and know the feeling of being a player of Manchester United. Everyone respects everyone and I feel the warmth.

"I feel like everyone here is equal, there are no differences."
