Ralf Rangnick explains first Manchester United line up vs Crystal Palace and why Anthony Martial is missing

Ralf Rangnick has named an unchanged team for his first match as Manchester United manager.

The interim boss takes charge of United for the first time on Sunday afternoon when they host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Rangnick has stuck with the same side which defeated Arsenal in midweek with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line alongside Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

The German coach has also chosen to partner Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield with Donny van de Beek on the bench while Harry Maguire captains the squad.

Rangnick has only had one training session with his new side since taking charge and speaking ahead of kick-off he explained his team selection to face Palace.

"Well the team won against Arsenal, they did well especially in the second-half," he told MUTV. "Since everyone was fully fit and recovered there was no need to change the first eleven."

Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial are the two notable absentees and Rangnick confirmed they both miss the match through injury.

He added: "Jesse and Anthony indicated after yesterday's training that they didn't feel well. They felt pain, this is the reason why they are not in the squad."
