Ralf Rangnick delivers positive update on Edinson Cavani injury return for Manchester United

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has provided an update on Edinson Cavani as the striker nears a return to first-team action.

Cavani suffered irritation of his Achilles tendon during the 3-0 over Tottenham at the end of October, having earlier scored in the game.

However, in a boost for United as they enter the busy festive and new year period, interim boss Rangnick has revealed the striker could be involved as early as this weekend.

''For [Saturday's] game, the only possible candidate might be Edi. But we have to wait and see,'' began the 63-year-old.

''He was training with the team yesterday and the couple of days before that, so we have to wait and see how he feels.''

With Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial nursing their own injuries, Rangnick also shed light on their own roads to recovery.

He continued: ''For Rapha, the game will come too early. He was out for a couple of weeks and we need to make sure he stays fully fit for the next couple of months, until the end of the season.

''So we don't want to rush him too much. But I'm very positive that, in the next couple of weeks, he will be available.

''We have to wait and see [with Martial]. It's a question of pain: how tolerable the pain will be on his knee but, for tomorrow, he will not be one of the players who is available.”

Paul Pogba out of the country at present stepping up his own return from a thigh injury, with the midfielder allowed to do so by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Reds face Norwich later this evening, hope to build on their impressive recent run, as they remain unbeaten in their last 5 outings.
