The Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Raksha Bandhan' is panning out to be the actor's third consecutive dud at the box office.
The film which was off to a slow start with an opening collection of around Rs 8 crore, dipped further on its first Tuesday at the ticket windows. According to reports, the film managed to earn just around Rs 1.65 crore on a regular working day.
The film's total now stands at an estimated Rs 35 crore.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, the family drama that was released in theatres on August 11, saw a steady decline in ticket sales. After its lukewarm debut, the film earned around Rs 6.25 crore on Friday, and Rs 5.75 crore on Saturday. The film saw a rise in collections on Sunday with an estimated earning of Rs 7.25 crore that was followed by a Rs 6.25 crore collection on Monday.
According to the report, the film had an 80% drop in collections, much like Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha'.
Going by the current trend, trade experts predict that the film may earn a lifetime collection of just Rs 40 crore nett.
Despite getting a five-day holiday weekend, starting with Raksha Bandhan on August 11 and ending with Independence Day, both Bollywood releases have been struggling at the box office.
For Akshay Kumar, 'Raksha Bandhan' has been his third successive dud - starting with 'Bachchan Pandey', which got wiped out by 'The Kashmir Files', and 'Samrat Prithviraj', despite the film being endorsed by the BJP top brass and made tax-free in three states.
Despite the film's poor run at the ticket windows, the makers took to social media to pen a note of thanks to all fans. "Your love for these siblings has been overwhelming. Witness the heartwarming tale of #RakshaBandhan on the big screens. The movie is in cinemas, book your tickets now," read the caption of the tweet.
'Raksha Bandhan' follows the story of Lala Kedarnath (Kumar) who is struggling to get his four younger sisters married.
The film features Bhumi Pednekar as Kumar's on-screen love interest with Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna and Smrithi Srikanth playing the role of his sisters.
