Proceedings in the house were stalled after the oath-taking by 6 new members of parliament and the laying of papers as opposition members protested the fuel hike. The Chairman did not admit their 267 notices, but proceedings could not continue due to the chaos.

Members prevented from speaking as chaos continues in House
The Chair invited the Minister of Labour and Employment to reply to the discussion on the working of the ministry of labour and employment raised by M. Shanmugam, on March 30, 2022.
H.D Deve Gowda was also later invited to speak after points of order were raised.
Neither member could speak as opposition members continued raising objections and started chanting.
Points of Order raised
Derek O’ Brien raised a point of order asking that The Women’s Reservation Bill be voted on. Chair Dr. Sasmit Patra called for silence as other members raise points of orders about the discussion of fuel hike issue.
Patra said that the honourable chairman has already taken a decision on this matter and issued a futile call for silence.

MPs struggle to continue Question hour proceedings as opposition raises objections. Chair Dr. Sasmit Patra requests members to remain silent and return to their seats. He said he would allow the LOP to speak, but to no avail.

Rajya Sabha adjourned till noon after Chairman Venkaiah Naidu refused to admit notices moved under Rule 267 to suspend the day’s business to discuss rising petrol prices.
You had an opportunity to discuss this earlier, Naidu said, adding that members could have spoken during the Appropriation and Finance Bill discussions.
There was commotion in the House from opposition members, leading to Naidu adjourning the house till 12 noon.
Naidu also rejected a notice from MP Deepender Singh Hooda about demand for discussion on the reservation passed by Punjab Vidhan Sabha about transfer of the UT of Chandigarh to Punjab.
