Rajon Rondo remains questionable for tonight’s Jazz game, will come off bench if he plays

There’s been a lot of talk over the last 24 hours about Rajon Rondo and the role he’ll play alongside LeBron James with the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Head coach Frank Vogel first indicated to reporters on Thursday that the veteran point guard could start “a lot” of games this year before later clarifying that number of projected starts to around 10.

Regardless of how that eventually plays out, Rondo remains questionable for tonight’s matchup with the Utah Jazz. If he is activated for the contest, he will be coming off the bench for Vogel and the Lakers according to a report from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin earlier this afternoon.

Rondo is reportedly nursing a sore calf which kept him out of the season opener. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers had a scrimmage on Thursday and Rondo did test the injury during that live action. But a decision on whether or not he actually goes tonight may not come until just before tip-off.

The Lakers will meet a Utah club that will be led by newly acquired point guard, Mike Conley. The Jazz won their opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder, 100-95, despite only five points from Conley who struggled from the field to find his shot. But if Conley is able to get going against the Lakers, he will combine with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert to present a formidable challenge for LeBron and company.
