Rajon Rondo discusses his role on the Lakers this season

Unlike last season, the Los Angeles Lakers have more guards who can facilitate the offense at a high level.

Last year’s guards thrived more on defense, but the Lakers changed the approach for the roster construction this time around.

Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Nunn and Rajon Rondo are the three guards expected to play the most at the point, and each brings unique skills to the table.

Rondo, who arrived on a one-year deal, spoke about the possible role he’ll have on the team.

“Coach told me anywhere from like, zero to 48, so I’m going to go in between that realm,” Rondo joked. “Nah, like I said, regardless of how many minutes or I do play or don’t play, I’m grateful to be here, and I know I can bring so much more if I’m not playing. So regardless of my role, I know I’ll have a big impact regardless of playing or not.”

This lines up with what head coach Frank Vogel recently said about Rondo being someone who will not play as much this year, barring changes.

The 35-year-old guard played a huge role for the 2019-20 Lakers team that won a championship. “Playoff Rondo” emerged as a key piece alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Maybe that happens again this year, but it’ll be interesting to see how the minutes are allocated to a deep roster.
