NEW DELHI: In the wake of bitter infighting going on in the Jharkhand Congress, the central leadership has replaced state president Rameshwar Oraon with Rajesh Thakur and appointed four new working presidents. Similarly, Meghalaya also gets a new president and three working presidents.
As per a press release, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has appointed Rajesh Thakur as the president of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) with immediate effect.
She has also appointed MP Geeta Kora, MLA Bandhu Tirkey, Jaleshwar Mahato and Shahzada Anwar as the four new working presidents.
The press statement said: “The party appreciates the contributions of outgoing PCC president Rameshwar Oraon. The party also appreciates the contributions of outgoing working presidents Kamlesh Mahto, Irfan Ansari, Manas Sinha and Sanjay Paswan.”
The changes have come in the wake of bitter infighting in the state Congress. Several party leaders visited Delhi to meet the central leadership demanding removal of Rameshwar Oraon as the state president. Oraon is also the state finance minister.
Sonia Gandhi has also appointed MP Vincent H Pala as the president in place of Celestine Lyngdoh of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.
Besides, MLAs Ampareen Lyngdoh and Marthon Sangma and James Lyngdoh have been appointed as working presidents.
