JODHPUR: Two persons were arrested for stabbing a man to death over an old enmity in Pali district, Rajasthan. The main accused was said to be jealous of the personality of the victim, a dalit, and his posts on social media. The victim and the accused hail from the same village.
Interestingly, the accused had shifted to Surat, but had returned to Pali to settle an old score. According to the police, the accused had also been charged for an earlier attack on the victim in June 2020. This had further enraged the accused, and he constantly built pressure on the victim to withdraw the case.
On March 15, while the victim, Jitendra Kumar, had been going about his duty as a Covid health assistant in his village with a friend, the main accused, Suraj Singh, along with one Ramesh Singh, laid in wait for him.
“They intercepted him and stabbed him in his back and stomach repeatedly. They fled, leaving Jitendra bleeding profusel. He was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his wounds,” said Pali SP Dushyant Rajan. Suraj, along with some of his friends, had beaten Jitendra on June 23, 2020. After the incident, instead of returning to Surat, the accused duo wandered about in Rajasthan, and were arrested from Pachpadra in Barmer district on Thursday evening.
The victim’s brother, Om Prakash said that his brother’s impressive personality turned out to be deadly for him.
