KOTA: Five of a family — a couple and their three minor children — were killed on the spot after an uncontrolled dumper truck crushed them while they were asleep on cots outside their kaccha house at Ghorakhal under Mandawar police station in Jhalawar district in the intervening night between Wednesday and Thursday.
Police detained the accused dumper driver and seized his vehicle on Thursday morning. They handed over the bodies to their family members after postmortem later in the day.
The deceased were identified as daily wage labourer Suresh Bheel (44), his wife Sitabai (40) and their three children Nirmala (11), Pavan
(7) and Kamlesh (5). Suresh was a native of a village in Ghatoli police station area of the district and had been living at Ghorakhal for the last five years.
“The seven-member family was sleeping on the roadside outside their Ghorakhal house due to heat and humidity. Around 12.30am on Thursday, an uncontrolled dumper truck hurtled towards them and mowed down the couple and their three children, killing them on the spot. Two other children of the couple escaped with injuries as they were sleeping at a distance,” Mandawar police official Brijraj Singh said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
