Rajasthan: Thieves target Army bunkers for iron scrap in Jaisalmer

JAISALMER: An armyman lodged a case of bunker iron scrap being stolen by thieves in the Lunayat area under the Nokh police station area in the district on Sunday. Nokh SHO Mohammad Hanif said unidentified thieves stole a bunker near Lunayat village two days ago, and on getting information police reached the spot and started investigating. An Army officer filed the case against unidentified men.

The police official said last year in this area a total of 16 army bunkers were stolen. He said the thieves were caught and bunker scrap was recovered. In January, thieves stole a bunker and an FIR was lodged in February, he said, adding that police will soon catch the thieves.

According to information from villagers, bunkers on the international border in Jaisalmer have been targeted by thieves many times. Thieves targeted bunkers thrice in the last one year. First on February 6, 2021, thieves stole the bunkers, and with the help of the villagers, three thieves were caught. Later on Jan 26, 2022, thieves for the second time stole a bunker and on January 29, a missing report was lodged.
