Rajasthan: Slight respite from biting cold, Fatehpur logs below freezing point

JAIPUR: After two days of bone-chilling weather, a rise of almost 2°C was recorded across the state on Monday. Despite the slight rise, many places witnessed its minimum temperatures below 5°C. Fatehpur remained the coldest in the state logging -1.8°C.

Attributing the minor rise in temperatures to weak northerly winds, Jaipur Met office said some respite would be witnessed in some parts of the state on Tuesday.

“Minor rise in temperatures would be further witnessed in the state in the next couple of days. However, districts including Sikar, Churu and Jhunjhunu would be under the severe cold wave conditions,” said an officer with Jaipur Met office.

People in Jaipur woke up to a comparatively warmer morning as a minimum temperature of 6.1°C.

Roads, however, continued to wear an empty look in the early morning and late evening hours. “In the next couple of days, there is a possibility of further rise in minimum and maximum temperatures in Jaipur. By the end of this week, the minimum temperature of Jaipur could be above 10°C,” said an officer with Jaipur Met office.

Fatehpur was followed by Sikar and Churu where a minimum temperature of -0.5°C was recorded, Karauli -0.1°C, Alwar 1.1°C, Chittorgarh 1.2°C, Bhilwara 1.4°C, Pilani 3.3°C, Nagaur 3.5°C, Udaipur 3.6°C, Sawai Madhopur 4.1°C, Sriganganagar 4.3°C, Ajmer 5.3°C, Bikaner 6.9°C, Jodhpur 8°C, Barmer 9.6°C and Jaisalmer 9.8°C.

In its forecast for Tuesday, Jaipur Met office said a minor rise in the mercury is expected in the next 24 hours. In some places in Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Bikaner and Churu districts, there is a possibility of fog and mist during early morning and late evening hours.
