JODHPUR: Terminated sub-inspector Seema Jakhar was arrested by Sirohi police on Sunday. She along with three constables had been suspended first on November 16 last year following allegations of aiding escape of a poppy husk smuggler in lieu of Rs 10 lakh. She had been terminated 10 days later after the allegations were proven true.
SP (Sirohi) Dharmendra Singh Yadav said that a team had been sent to Jodhpur following information that she was at her home.
"But she was not found at her home. On the basis of further information, she was arrested from the city and was taken to Saroopganj police station on Sunday," said Yadav.
It may be noted that a vehicle had been seized by Barloot police on November 14 and 141kg poppy husk had been recovered from the vehicle. Smugglers succeeded in fleeing taking advantage of darkness as the police had used tyre busters to stop the vehicle.
But it was later learnt that Barloot police had struck a deal with the smuggler for Rs 10 lakh to help him flee. The deal was also recorded by CCTV cameras at a hotel at the spot.
On this information, SP (Sirohi) had reached the police station and also checked the video grabs which prima facie pointed the needle of suspicion on Barloot police leading to suspension of SHO Jakhar and three constables Om Prakash, Hanuman and Suresh. The investigation was handed over to the circle officer.
With Seema Jakhar's arrest now, arrest of three terminated constables Om Prakash, Suresh and Hanuman is imminent.
Police have already arrested three persons in the matter, who are under judicial custody while the main accused and smuggler of poppy husk Dinesh Khichad is yet to be arrested.
