JAIPUR: The months-long deadlock in Indian handball has been resolved following the intervention of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The executive committee of Handball Association of India (HAI) has unanimously elected Digvijay Singh Chautala of Haryana as president, Jaganmohan Rao of Telangana as general secretary and Dr Tejraj Singh Khangarot as treasurer.
On this occasion, IOA president PT Usha, joint secretary and Chief Executive Officer Kalyan Chaubey, HAI newly appointed president Digvijay Singh Chautala, treasurer Tejraj Singh and executive director Anandeshwar Pandey were present.
Newly appointed treasurer Tejraj Singh thanked the IOA and said that he would work for the benefit of the players.
“My only aim is to serve handball. For a long time, the players were also getting upset because the court case was an unnecessary waste of time and money. The players will benefit a lot from having both the factions on the same page now,” said Tejraj.
He said that both the groups will now work together for the betterment of sports and players. He said that for him the development of handball in the country is paramount.
“There is no personal interest of anyone even remotely in this decision. Due to this dispute, the government help given to the players was stopped for a long time. Outstanding sports persons were being denied government jobs despite their best sports performance at the national and international level,” said Tejraj.
Maharana Pratap Awardee Tejraj said that when a problem can be solved through dialogue, what can be better than this. Therefore, this solution was taken in the interest of sports with mutual coordination and consent can be important in many ways.
This solution arrived at with the mutual consent of both the parallel federations and is certainly being seen as a big example for all the sports federations.
