Rajasthan: PWD employee commits suicide in Tonk, REET angle under lens

JAIPUR: Tonk police arrested a person after a 27-year-old youth working in the public works department (PWD) committed suicide over alleged mental pressure over some money row.

According to the Tonk police, Lokesh Meena, a resident of Ranipura was posted as a junior assistant in the PWD, and he was found hanging inside his house on Tuesday morning.

While the district police have filed an FIR against 11 persons, the deputy leader of the opposition, Rajendra Rathore alleged in a tweet that the deceased in his suicide letter had mentioned buying REET paper from two big “paper mafias” of Jaipur and Barmer districts for Rs 40 lakhs.

SP (Tonk) Manish Tripathi said that the family in their FIR to the police have not referred to the REET paper. “We are investigating the case from all possible angles,” Tripathi said, adding that the investigation into the case is led by Deputy SP ( DSP) Uniara.

Meena’s death sparked a protest wherein his relatives refused to cremate him until the accused are arrested. The police and local MLA pacified the relative following which they agreed to conduct Meena’s last rites.

The police said that they have recovered the suicide note and are in the process of examining it. On the question of the REET connection with the suicide, police said that the investigation is underway to examine all angles.
