Rajasthan: Priest uses trident to kill self in Bundi shrine

KOTA: A 55-year-old man, who served as a priest at a temple under Gendoli police station of Bundi district, allegedly killed himself with the trident of the shrine on Tuesday night. The reason behind the suicide is not yet clear. Police have lodged a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of CrPC and began investigation to ascertain actual reason.

Ramesh Goswami, resident of Bhanskheda village, allegedly killed himself with the temple’s trident, Gendoli SHO Buhdram said.

The priest had been serving in Tilbhandeshwar temple for the past 11 years and lived with his wife in a nearby dharamshala, he added.

According to the wife, the priest had gone to temple to lock it at around 8pm and when he did not return till 11pm, she went to look for him in the temple where she found him with a deep wounds in his stomach and the bloodstained trident lying aside on the floor, the SHO said.

The priest was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead, he added.

Meanwhile, the son of the priest suspected it to be a murder case and claimed there was dispute between his father and members of temple management committee. TNN
