Rajasthan panchayat polls: Counting begins at 11am

JAIPUR: Following cold waves and foggy weather conditions in the state, the State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday changed the vote counting timing for Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections.

The timing for the counting, to be held on Tuesday, has been changed from 9 am to11 am, said chief electoral officer and SEC secretary Chitra Gupta.

The elections for Zila Pramukhs and Pradhans were held in four districts - Karauli, Baran, Ganganagar and Kota. The secretary has directed the District Election Officers (DEOs) of these districts to inform the candidates and political parties about the change in timing.

In the first phase, 64.35 per cent voters had exercised their franchise, 68.57 per cent turnout was recorded in the second phase, while in the third phase, 68.99 percent turnout was recorded in three districts.

Overall 67.25% polling was registered in three phases of the panchayat polls in the above four districts. Gupta further said the code of conduct for panchayat samiti and zila pa rishad elections in the four districts is effective till December 24.
