Rajasthan: Five of a family die as jeep falls into canal in Hanumangarh

JAIPUR: A jeep carrying five members of a family plunged into a canal in a mysterious accident in Hanumangarh district on Sunday.

Three bodies were fished out by Sunday evening, while searches were underway for the remaining two passengers who two are feared dead. The victims were identified as Harish Jhakhar (40), his wife Suman (36), daughter Minakshi (14), son Manish (7), and his sister-in-law Manju(31).

The police recovered bodies of Suman, Minakshi, and Manju, whereas Manish and Harish could not be tracked due to rising water levels. Inspector general of police, Bikaner range, Prafulla Kumar said that the police suspect suicide as one of the major reasons for the jeep falling into the canal.

“The prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. The Hanumangarh police are probing the matter to find out details,” Kumar told TOI.

The Hanumangarh Town police station said that they had spoken to the passengers of multiple vehicles that had passed through the area. None of the passersby confirmed that the jeep had fallen following an accident.

“Jeep had turned towards kaccha road and rolled down the canal. A man was driving the tractor in a nearby area, but he could not tell how the jeep fell into the canal. We are making attempts to fish out all bodies, investigation is being carried out,” said SHO, Town, Laxman Singh.
