Rajasthan: Family ostracised for not agreeing to child marriage of their daughter

AJMER: A family from Ras village in Pali district on Sunday filed an FIR against 28 people of their community in Pisanghan police station alleging that when they denied the child marriage of their daughter, the khap panchayat of their community discarded (hukka pani bandh) their family from the community and imposed Rs 2 lakh penalty. Police have registered a case and started investigation.

According to police, Rama Ram (60) and Cheta Ram (60) of Jangliya community lodged a report against 28 people, who are panch of their community in Pali, Ajmer and Nagaur districts, stating that child marriage of Rama Ram was conducted when she was toddler to a boy of Alaniyawas village of Nagaur. The boy named Naurat is now an alcoholic and in that situation, the girl denied the child marriage and got married somewhere else.

On September 23, 2021, the Jangliya community held a community panchayat at Pisanghan and decided to discard the family of Rama Ram from the community. On October 16, the panch of the community reached different villages and spread that family of Rama Ram was discarded from the community and therefore no one would keep any relations with that family.
