JODHPUR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau ( ACB) on Wednesday arrested an officer at Central Goods & Services Tax (CGST) department in Jalore along with a private person for accepting a bribe for registration of a granite firm in Jalore. The bribe had been taken by a salesman of a petrol pump on his behalf.
The officer had demanded Rs 2 lakh for the work as bribe but during verification of the complaint, he settled for Rs 1 lakh during negotiation with the complainant.
DIG (ACB) Kailash Chandra Bishnoi said that a complainant Khemraj, who was a caretaker of Jai Gurudev Granite in Jalore had approached with a complaint, that the firm had been inactive for past some time and required to re-registered with the CGST department.
"He contacted the superintendent of CGST (Jalore Range) Shyoram Meena with a request for registration of the firm," said Bishnoi.
The ACB, Jalore unit verified the complaint during which, the officer agreed to settle the deal on Rs 1 lakh on the insistence of the complainant to reduce the amount.
Bishnoi said, later Meena was also arrested along with Kartaram while the teams are after Nitesh, who absconded.
