Rajasthan: Alwar police attacked by mafia thrice in a week

ALWAR: Alwar cops have faced attacks by the members of land mafia, gangs of criminals and others in separate police station areas in past one week. Expressing concern over the incidents, senior officers have asked their men to be vigilant and move with all the resources while they are out to make arrests.

A team of Govindgarh police along with a police team of West Bengal had gone to nab the gang of cons when they were attacked by the assailants in which five policemen sustained injuries. "Three of the five injured were the policemen from West Bengal. When the team went there, villagers pelted stones and also thrashed the policemen. Their government vehicles were also vandalized. Those who attacked police included family members of the con gangs," said a senior police officer in Alwar on Friday.

Soon after, a team of senior police officers led by Tejaswini Gautam, superintendent of police, rushed to the spot to take stock of the incident. Alwar collector Nanu Mal Pahadia also reached the spot. "We have registered an FIR against more than 20 people for causing hindrance in government work and for assault," the SP said.

Kamal Prasad Meena, deputy SP, Ramgarh, elaborating more on the incident said, "A team of Asansol-Durgapur police station from West Bengal had lodged a case in which the cons had extorted Rs 21,000 on pretext of making the morphed video of a man public. They had a specific input on the whereabouts of the accused thus they took our help. While our team reached at the spot with them they were attacked."

Prior to this, on February 1, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and two constables were thrashed by people involved in the illegal smuggling of fake liquor. Likewise, on January 31, a patrolling team of Chopnaki police station was attacked when a driver of dumper attempted to run over the patrolling team in which two policemen were seriously injured.

"In the case of cons we have arrested 12 persons so far and those who attacked us won't be spared. Likewise, in the Malakhera case we have arrested nine persons. We will not let anyone take law in their hands and I have also directed our men to move with proper resources," the SP said.
