Rajasthan: 4 dead in Kota district as inter-state bus rams into truck

KOTA: At least four persons were killed and five injured after a private passenger sleeper bus rammed into a trailer truck on NH-27 near Simliya town of Kota district on Tuesday around 3am. The bus was going from Rajkot in Gujarat to Kanpur in UP.

At least four persons were killed on the spot and five others injured after a private passenger sleeper bus rammed into a trailer truck on NH-27 near Simliya town of the Kota district early Tuesday morning at around 3am. The passenger bus was going from Rajkot in Gujarat to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Kota (rural) SP Kavendra Singh Sagar, who rushed to the spot after the mishap, told TOI that the actual reason behind the mishap was being probed, though, prima facie, it appears that the driver had slightly lost control over the vehicle, resulting in the bus ramming the truck from behind. The four deceased persons have been identified as Virendra Singh (32) of Jhansi in UP, Narayan (38) of Gwalior in MP, Jitendra Singh (33) of Etawah in UP, and Jitu alias Jitendra Singh (32) of Mainpuri in UP.

The five injured are Sitaram (35) of Kanpur (rural); Vikram (22), Shriram (24), Devendra (25), all from Shivpuri in MP; and Sonu (19) from Patna in Bihar.

The driver of the passenger bus reportedly stuck his neck out of the window to spit tobacco which allegedly imbalanced the bus and led to the vehicle hitting the trailer truck ahead of it on the highway, Simliya police station DSP & CO Netra Pal Singh said.

The driver fled from the spot after the mishap, he added. Around 50 passengers were traveling in the bus.

While three bodies were handed over to family members after post-mortem in the afternoon, the kin of the fourth deceased, identified as Jitendra Singh from Etawah, are expected to reach here in the evening. The post-mortem will be done after that, Simliya police station SHO Yogesh Sharma said.

The five injured persons are undergoing medical treatment at MBS Hospital in Kota. A case of negligence will be lodged against the bus driver and the matter will be investigated, Sharma said.
