Rajasthan: 2 SHOs, 2 constables in ACB net for taking Rs 3 lakh bribe

JAIPUR: Busting a racket of corruption run by police stations in Dungarpur, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested two station house officers (SHO) and two constables posted at different police stations in Dungarpur district for allegedly accepting a total bribe of Rs 3 lakh.

ACB have also recovered Rs 5 lakh cash which was taken earlier by one of the SHOs and a constable. ACB authorities stated that senior police officers of the district are on their radar and more arrests are likely in this case.

The accused were held in parallel action in which the four cops were caught red-handed accepting bribe as monthly charges from the liquor traders to facilitate them in running their liquor business uninterruptedly.

Director General ACB, BL Soni, stated that one complainant approached the special investigation unit of the bureau at its headquarters in Jaipur and informed about the malpractice run by the police in Dungarpur district.

“It was informed that police were taking Rs 2.5 lakh as monthly charges from a liquor shop to allow them to run their business freely in 2020. Later, the demand increased to Rs 5 lakh in 2021. But when they started asking for Rs 10 lakh per month the complainant approached us. We got specific complaint on two police stations including Dhambola and Kotwali police stations of Dungarpur. Thus, our team first verified the complaint and on Thursday a trap was laid in which the SHOs and constables of both the police station were arrested,” said Soni while talking to TOI.

Sharing more details, he said, “Dhambola SHO Bhaiya Lal Aanjana along with constable Bhopal Singh of same police station was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh. Likewise Kotwali SHO Dilip Dan Barhat and constable Jagdish Bishnoi were arrested at the same police station for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. The arrested accused had already taken Rs 5 lakh from the complaint prior to this trap.”

Asked about the role of the superintendent of police, Dungarpur, a senior officer, said, “His role in the entire racket of corruption would also be probed. Though no direct involvement of the SP is found so far but his role would also be probed.”
