Raith vs Dunfermline abandoned after 12 minutes as fans and TV viewers left in dark at Championship Fife derby

Raith Rovers' highly anticipated Fife derby with Dunfermline lasted just 12 minutes before a power failure brought the Championship clash to an abrupt halt.

Starks Park was bouncing as the rivals got ready for their first derby with fans in attendance since the pandemic began, a game selected for live television coverage.

There was a delay to kick-off due to a floodlight problem but referee Gavin Duncan was eventually given the green light to start the match when the lights came on.

And for 12 minutes it appeared all was going well with Raith and Dunfermline fans in fine voice.

But the referee was soon called over to consult with the match commander who informed him there was no electricity in either stand which housed supporters.

That was deemed a security risk and John McGlynn and Peter Grant and their players were left in suspense wondering when the game would be able to resume.

Duncan's whistle moments later signalled the end of the Championship clash which will now have to be replayed at a later date.

Both sets of fans were audibly fuming and it came after hundreds of home fans were left outside the stadium in the dark ten minutes before kick-off.

This was due to an electrical failure but Raith have been criticised for failing to communicate this to queuing fans who were attending their first derby in nearly two years.
