Raith Rovers suffer Covid outbreak as they request Inverness postponement after Championship testing begins

Raith Rovers have asked for their game against Inverness on Saturday to be postponed after an outbreak of coronavirus was detected among the squad.

The SFA announced on Monday that all football below the top two divisions of the men's game would be halted for a period of at least three weeks to act as a firebreak.

The Premiership and Championship were allowed to continue but testing had to be introduced in the second flight for the first time.

And Raith Rovers have revealed that their tests have uncovered a Covid-19 outbreak as they asked the SPFL to postpone their game on Saturday.

A statement said: "The club is currently dealing with an outbreak of COVID-19 amongst the playing and backroom staff.

"We have applied to the SPFL for postponement of this Saturday’s match v Inverness Caledonian Thistle, and are awaiting a response.

"In the meantime, we are co-operating fully with the appropriate authorities.

"Further updates will follow."

The news comes as Kilmarnock and St Mirren have their appeals heard against a pair of walkovers after they were unable to field a team, both incidents coming against Motherwell.

The Steelmen were initially awarded the points and both clubs fined but the pair appealed and the walkovers have been repealed pending a decision.
