Raith Rovers manager latest as Airdrie boss 'strong candidate' alongside former Hibs teammate

Airdrie manager Ian Murray is in the running for Raith Rovers' vacant managerial role alongside former Hibs teammate Kevin Thomson.

The 41-year-old's Diamonds side enjoyed an impressive League One season after Championship play-off final heartbreak in 2021, reaching that frontier again after a club-record unbeaten run.

But a familiar tale unfolded as they narrowly lost to Queen's Park over two legs, culminating in a 3-2 aggregate loss in the second at Penny Cars Stadium.

Murray's stock is still high though and according to the Courier, he is a 'strong candidate' to replace John McGlynn in Kirkcaldy.

Kelty Hearts boss Thomson was one of Murray's midfield partners during their playing days at Hibs, and he has held talks over the role.

Dundee United assistant manager Liam Fox has also spoken to Rovers about the vacancy.

After a spell coaching in Norway, Murray was named Airdrie manager in 2018 and has had them place as a top half team ever since, with his two most recent terms seeing them finish runners-up.
