A traditional village pub on the outskirts of Perth has been named best in the county in recent UK-wide awards.
The Pitcairngreen Inn near Almondbank was the Perth and Kinross winner in the 2019 Best Pub and Bar Awards which have just been announced.
The annual awards revealed the names of 94 individual pubs, voted to be the best venues in their respective counties.
“We are absolutely ecstatic to win this award,” said The Pitcairngreen Inn landlord Samantha O’Brien, who runs the country pub with partner Calum MacLeod.
Sam added: “We want to thank all our amazing staff for the hard work and effort they put in every day and also all of the wonderful customers that make the hard work worthwhile. Thank you everyone for making this achievement possible.”
The Pitcairngreen Inn’s top place in the area was decided by how well it did with food and drink and for offering memorable real ales and ciders.
The judges liked the inn for being very family friendly and pet friendly too.
Sam said: “Yes we are very dog friendly, we have all types of dogs in the pub daily, our most regular is a gorgeous Bernese puppy called Mango, we all have a very soft spot for him.
“We have a couple of dog water bowls dotted around the pub along with a constant supply of biscuits and cuddles for all dogs behind the bar.
“It is important for us to be family friendly. We offer a kids menu with fresh ingredients. We are perfectly situated beside a large green across the road which has swings on it too, so a nice we treat after a yummy meal at the pub.”
The Best Pub and Bar Awards are hosted by Pub and Bar magazine. The grand final on May 22 will see restaurant critic Jay Rayner presenting when 15 regional winners will be announced, as well as the overall national pub and bar of the year.
