Rainy weather postpones Cubs-Nationals game, rescheduled for Thursday

WASHINGTON _ Sunday's game between the Cubs and Nationals was postponed because of wet weather and rescheduled for Thursday at 3:05 p.m. CT.

That means the Cubs will have to fly to Washington following Wednesday night's series finale against the rival Brewers, face Max Scherzer on Thursday before returning to Wrigley Field to open a three-game series Friday against the Reds.

Left-hander Mike Montgomery was scheduled to make his 16th start against Erick Fedde. The Cubs have tied their franchise record by seeing three left-handed pitchers reach 15 starts in a single season, as Jon Lester (28 starts) and Jose Quintana (27) have surpassed the mark this season.

Pitcher Alec Mills was added to the roster. His 10-day stint on the Triple-A Iowa roster expired after being optioned from the Cubs on Aug. 29.
