A teenage boy was slashed in the face by a machete-wielding robber in a vicious street mugging in east London.

The 14-year-old was walking with another teenager along Rainham Rd, Rainham when the attacker confronted the pair at 7pm on Monday.

Police said they arrived at the scene to give first aid to the boy suffering a “slash injury to his face” and quickly established a robbery had taken place.

The second 14-year-old boy managed to avoid injury and didn’t require medical treatment, police said.

No arrests have been made.

MPS specials tweeted a photo of the crime scene, captioned: “Reports of a robbery in Havering involving a machete, EA taskforce on scene within minutes and emergency first aid provided to victim who had been injured, unfortunately, suspects got away but investigations continue.”

A Met spokesman added: “An investigation has been launched and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has useful information about what took place.”
