The Rainbow Bridge over Tokyo Bay was lit up in rainbow colors around 8 p.m. on Monday, in response to the lifting of the government's state of emergency declaration.
The seven colors of the rainbow were said to represent the seven metrics set by the Tokyo metropolitan government as criteria for easing the request for business suspensions. For example, one such metric was "the number of newly infected people."
Tokyo entered the first of three stages of the easing process at midnight Monday, which allowed restaurants to extend their business hours.
There are plans for the Rainbow Bridge to be illuminated in red when the metropolitan government issues an alert due to some of the metrics exceeding certain levels and the coronavirus is seen to be spreading again.
