As families step out to prep for the Eid Al Fitr celebrations and make plans to host grand parties, the weather seems all set to rain down on their parade. Residents across the UAE can expect a week of unsettled weather with rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds and possible hail forecast in certain parts of the country, warned the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).
Atmospheric instability predicted
In its latest forecast for March 21 to 27, the NCM said the UAE will be affected by a state of atmospheric instability as cloud systems from the west, move in. These conditions are expected to trigger convective cloud formation across various regions, causing rainfall of varying intensity at intervals. In some areas, thunder and lightning with a chance of hail are possible in limited locations.
On Thursday, NCEMA said it is taking proactive measures to brace for the unstable weather and to assess the situation. The authority said it will be working with the Ministry of Interior, NCM and other key partners during this time to monitor developments.
How does the week look?
Rain activity is expected to intensify over the weekend. Today, Friday, conditions are partly cloudy with possibility of rain in some areas.
- Saturday is expected to begin with light to moderate rain showers across scattered areas. These may become heavy over the northern and eastern regions, and Al Ain during the daytime.
- On Sunday, rainfall in differing intensities is expected to continue, particularly over the northern and eastern parts of the country.
- On Monday and Tuesday, cloud development will extend over most parts of the UAE with accompanying rainfall.
- By Wednesday, cloud cover will persist with chances of rain easing slightly but still continuing over some northern and eastern areas.
- Thursday to Saturday, convective cloud activity is expected to redevelop over scattered areas, bringing in rainfall of varying intensity.
Residents have been advised to stay updated with official forecasts and exercise caution during periods of heavy rain, especially with reduced visibility and water accumulation on roads. This also means that all your upcoming Eid celebrations and iftar parties may have to be organised in indoor areas.
