Rain plays havoc with NSW-Vic Shield clash

NSW bowler Chris Tremain's bid for more Victorian wickets has been thwarted by rain at the SCG. (AAP)

Rain has proven the latest hindrance for Victoria in their on-again off-again Sheffield Shield match against NSW at the SCG.

With the match already clouded by a COVID-19 case, rain ensured the entire second day of the match was abandoned on Sunday.

It comes after the opening day of the game was postponed when Victorian allrounder Will Sutherland tested positive to COVID-19 on Friday morning.

Play was pushed back to a Saturday start, when NSW were bowled out 233 before Victoria fell to 3-2 early in their innings.

Former Victorian quick Chris Tremain (3-23) was the destroyer, claiming two wickets in his first over and another in his next.

The visitors were able to fight back to 3-68 at stumps with Travis Dean and Jonathan Merlo both unbeaten on 32.

Conditions are expected to ease slightly for play to resume on Monday, but more wet weather is predicted for day four of the match on Tuesday.
