Rain closes Thi Lo Su waterfall and Umphang sanctuary

TAK: Heavy rain has led to a ban on tourists entering Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary, which includes the popular Thi Lo Su waterfall, and from rafting on the Mae Klong River.

Sanctuary chief Kusol Suwannaporn ordered the temporary closure from Monday without setting an end date.

He cited heavy rain and an instruction to do so from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.

The closure includes sites used for field trips and camping in Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary, and is intended to prevent further untoward incidents such as occurred recently at Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai province, where 12 young footballers and their coach were trapped for 18 days, he said.

The closure also halts rafting on the Mae Klong River.
