Rain and mild conditions to bring 'some reprieve'

Weather conditions are expected to bring some respite for the South Coast on Monday.

Emergency services and the Bureau of Meteorology are expected milder temperatures and some rain to aid the efforts of firefighters around the Illawarra and South Coast.

"We are expecting more mild conditions over this coming week," NSW RFS commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said.

"We are even expecting some shower activity, light shower activity, down the South Coast area across some of these firegrounds.

"Certainly not across the high country to any degree, but along the coastal strip we are expecting to see some reprieve.

"It will be a reprieve of sorts. It will be a psychological reprieve for many, but it's certainly not going to be the reprieve we are looking for in terms of getting all of these fires under control or putting these fires out."

The Bureau of Meteorology said while there will be some light falls of rain around today, more significant rain will be on the way on Monday.

"Tomorrow will see the winds shift a bit more easterly and they are expected to bring some more moisture and higher likelihood of some more substantial rain fall," forecaster Olenka Duma said,

"And by 'more substantial rain fall', that is a a bit more than we've seen in a while. On average there will be widespread falls of around 5-10mm.

"There is a a chance of some higher falls in the far south coast and far southern ranges where they could see in the order of 10-20 mm."

Temperatures are expected to drop to around 18-32 degrees across the region and while they will remain cooler for the rest of the week another hot weekend is on the way.

"Friday looks like the next burst ahead with temperatures in the mid to lows 30s through southeast of the state," Ms Duma said.
