Railway companies are working hard to disinfect commuter trains in an effort to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus.
Seibu Railway Co. is adding disinfection to its regular cleaning regimen for its 1,294 train cars. According to the company, they can disinfect 160 train cars per day. At the Kotesashi railyard in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, the cleaning crew were in groups of 4 and used chlorine-based disinfectant on cloths and carefully wiped down handrails, hand straps, door and windows, as well as its surroundings.
"We're working really hard to lower the risk of infection by thoroughly disinfecting everything, so I hope people will feel safe when riding the train," said an official of the company in charge of maintenance at the railyard.
