Railway disruption between Newcastle and Berwick after person hit by train at Pegswood

Trains have been halted between Newcastle and Berwick after a person was struck by a train in Pegswood.

The British Transport Police and the ambulance service were called to the railway line at the Northumberland village just before 9.45am on Wednesday.

In the latest update, officers and paramedics were still at the scene.

CrossCountry and London North Eastern Railway ( LNER ) trains have been suspended between Newcastle and Berwick until further notice.

CrossCountry ticket holders can use their tickets on Virgin Trains services between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street in both directions.

LNER customers are able to use their tickets on Virgin Trains services between Edinburgh and London Euston in both directions.

Passengers on LNER can also defer their journey and use their ticket to travel tomorrow.

Disruption is expected to last until 2.30pm.
