Rail users are being urged to avoid a busy Merseyside railway station for the foreseeable future.
St Helens Borough Council are encouraging passengers to avoid Lea Green station when possible, as the station undergoes major refurbishment. As part of the plans, a new 450 space car park will be opened on the site, with the demolition of the current car park beginning on August 21.
The refurbishment comes as part of of the £15m St Helens Southern Gateway project, funded by the Combined Authority’s Transforming Cities Fund. Due to the existing car park being closed, rail users who drive to the station are being urged to use St Helens Junction station instead.

The council claims that the work on the station is an attempt to encourage the use of public transport, and an attempt to link Lea Green to nearby employment and leisure hubs- such as Liverpool and Manchester.
St Helens Council said: "Commuters who use park and ride facilities at Lea Green Railway Station are reminded that the existing oversubscribed car park will be closed from August 21 to accommodate the construction of a 450-capacity modern decked car park.
"Work is underway on an extension to surface car parking facilities, but with space reduced for the duration of works, rail customers who normally drive to Lea Green station are being advised to use nearby St Helens Junction station where possible, until the new car park opens in spring 2023.
"Passengers wanting to access TransPennine Express Trains via St Helens Junction should visit the TPE website for more information and availability of services here. "
