Rail services suspended after lorry gets stuck under bridge in Nottinghamshire

Rail services between Worksop and Mansfield have been suspended because of a lorry which has become stuck under a railway bridge.

Services between the two stations are unable to run after the lorry struck the bridge at around 12noon on Thursday, October 29.

The bridge in Gateford Road, Worksop, is now being inspected to make sure it is safe to use.

A recovery lorry has also arrived and attempts are being made to remove the vehicle.

This means trains are no longer arriving at Whitwell, Creswell, Langwith-Whaley Thorns and Shirebrook along the route between the two stations.

Trains are now starting and finishing at Mansfield Woodhouse until the bridge has been declared safe.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway said: "Services on our Nottingham-Worksop route are unable to run between Mansfield Woodhouse and Worksop due to a road vehicle striking a bridge. Work to remove the vehicle and inspect the bridge is underway.

"A recovery lorry has arrived to remove the vehicle and allow a bridge safety check to take place. EMR services will run between Nottingham and Mansfield Woodhouse only until the bridge has been declared safe."

East Midlands Railway expects the problem to be fixed in two hours, and for services to return to normal at 4pm.

Some pre-planned rail replacement services are now running between Shirebrook and Worksop, and additional alternative road transport will be arranged as required for customers to travel between Mansfield Woodhouse and Worksop.
