Rail services in Glasgow disrupted after tracks 'buckle' in heat

Rail services in Glasgow have been disrupted this evening after tracks in the north of the city 'buckled' in the heat.

ScotRail have confirmed that high track temperatures have heated the metal rails near Ashfield station, causing them to expand and be damaged.

Network Rail have advised that that repairs are unable to be completed until overnight when it's cooler.

Tweets from ScotRail said: "Due to high track temperatures services will have to run at a reduced speed and be diverted onto another line.

"The sun today has heated the metal rails considerably, causing them to expand and be damaged.

"The Network Rail Scotland team have advised that repairs need to be completed overnight when it's cooler, so there'll be delays of around 10 mins for the rest of the day."

As a result, services to Glasgow Queen Street to Anniesland have had to run at a reduced speed and be diverted onto another line according to ScotRail.

Services from Anniesland via Hyndland and Partick are not affected.
