From Monday, lorries with more than six wheels will be banned from eight roads where construction of electric railways are under way.
Jirapat Phumjit, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), said the vehicles would be forbidden from using the eight routes from 5am to 10am and 3pm to 9pm until construction is completed in the next few years.
The first four roads are Lat Phrao Road from Lat Phrao to Bang Kapi intersections, Seri Thai Road from Bang Kapi to Nida intersections, Ramkhamhaeng Road from Ramkhamhaeng to Ban Ma intersections and Chaeng Watthana Road from Pak Kret intersection to the Bang Khen roundabout.
The remaining routes are Ram Intra Road from Bang Khen roundabout to Min Buri intersection, Sihaburanukit Road from Min Buri intersection to Klong Sam Wa intersection, Srinakarin Road from Bang Kapi to Sri Thepha intersections and Thepharak Road from Sri Thep to Thepharak intersections.
Pol Maj Gen Jirapat said the measure was already published in the Royal Gazette and would go into force on Monday. Those who fail to comply will face a maximum fine of 1,000 baht under the Land Transport Act.
All police stations were ordered to inform motorists and commuters so they can plan their travel schedules.
As for construction companies, the MPB deputy chief said the scheme would not affect them as construction materials would be delivered only at night.
