Rail firm reveals list of 10 most unusual items left on trains last year including life-size Trump cut-out

Rail firm East Midlands trains has revealed a list of the strangest items left behind by passengers last year and it includes a life-size cut-out of Donald Trump.

EMT said other bizarre items left on-board were a 7ft surfboard, a bag of condoms and a prosthetic leg.

There were also 45 musical instruments - enough for half an orchestra - including guitars, harps, drums and ukuleles.

The rail firm said the most common things items left behind in 2017 were prosaic: 766 backpacks, 644 coats, 683 mobile phones and 593 wallets.

Launching new lost property app Found It!, where customers can track and claim their mislaid items, EMT managing director Jake Kelly said: "We've all been there - you hop off the train when it reaches your destination but your keys, phone or wallet carry on the journey without you."

Train companies have been slammed by passengers in recent months for charging them for the storage and retrieval of lost property.

Adam Howells told how Arriva Trains Wales charged him £2 to release his wallet, and kept 10 per cent of the cash it contained.

Under criticism, the company later announced it was changing its policy.

The upper limit of the fees train companies can charge for reclaiming lost property is enshrined in the National Rail Conditions of Travel.
